We go to Vegas frequently and always look for the best quality at the best price. There's lots of cheap food but most of it is worth exactly what you pay for it!
If you're willing to eat buffets I'd definitely hit Bellagio. Go early, around 3p, and you'll pay the lunch price, saving yourself $10 per person. They bring out the King crab at 4p so you're getting the exact same meal. It's truly an experience you don't want to miss.
Ellis Island has been on the Las Vegas Advisor best deal list for many years. Their top sirloin steak, fresh green beans, baked potato, salad and roll dinner is not on the menu and only $4.99. You just have to ask for it. They have a wonderful menu and everything is good as well as reasonable. They are located directly behind Bally's. If you like beer they are a micro-brewery and have excellent beer at ridiculously low prices.
Check out Las Vegas Advisor at...
http://www.lasvegasadvisor.com/topten.cfm#4. Their list changes every month.
Our other favorites that are quite reasonable include Main Street Station (downtown) and Orleans. When you check them out at Las Vegas Advisor you'll find they have certain nights that are either steak or seafood.
If you click around at the Advisor site you'll find all kinds of information about the various buffets as well as reviews. Only visit those that are ranked high or you'll live to regret it. Keep in mind that the reviews are written by all kinds of different people, many of whom haven't a clue! The site will also give you all the info you could possibly want on entertainment. Purchase tickets for the more expensive shows long in advance and by phone directly from the hotel. We find we get the best seats that way. For the cheaper shows you can get deals once you arrive at either the half-price ticket booth at M&M World or with coupons that are everywhere.
As far as shows I'd definitely see Mystere at Treasure Island. It was the first Cirque Du Soleil show we ever saw and it's still our favorite. It's also the highest rated show in Vegas. We'll be seeing Love (The Beatles) at the Mirage in April, another Cirque performance. Another fun show is Danny Gans and some of the impersonator shows are quite reasonable and good. I'd also see one of the topless shows that are Vegas classics. My first choice would be Jubilee at Bally's.
For shopping there are malls in all the hotels as well as two large outlet malls. One is on the strip but south of the hotels. The other is downtown. You can probably catch a shuttle to the south mall...

There is also a large mall right on the strip. Here's a link to the shopping....

Luxor This 30-story pyramid has been one of the best themed hotel/casinos (Egyptian of course) and one of my favorite. Recent upgrades to the Luxor's atrium (or lobby if you prefer) have replaced some of Egyptian decor with non-themed "glitz" which is unfortunate. However, there is enough left throughout the casino to enjoy. Take time to stroll if you enjoy classic Egyptian statues and monuments. If the weather is nice, you can do a quick tour of the Luxor's outside grounds (and take pictures of the 10 story sphinx). If you happen to be in the general area at night, you will see a powerful light beam atop the Luxor that can reportedly be seen by aircraft 250 miles away. Paris Las Vegas I rate this a must-see because of its enjoyable replicas of Paris landmarks, most notably the 540 foot tall Eiffel Tower (with wonderful views from its observation deck). You can see three of the Eiffel Tower's legs from inside the casino which adds a nice "touch". Don't miss the Streets of Paris walkway (toward the back) with its shops and restaurants. The walkway eventually leads into Bally's, but you don't have to go that far. This walkway is interesting but narrow and can be hard to get through when busy. Mirage The Mirage is a must-see stop. As you enter this Polynesian-themed hotel/casino through the front door, go to the right and see what's in back of the registration desk.It is worth seeing and one many people seem to miss on their trip. There is also a nearby tropical rain forest which you may find of interest. The Mirage is host to two "habitats" - the White Tiger Habitat and the Dolphin Habitat. Gone are the days when you could see the White Tigers for free. To see the Dolphins and White Tigers will now cost you $15.00 (adult admission). Follow the signs inside to see them. Since opening in 1989, the Mirage has been known for its famous 54 foot volcano that erupted every 15 minutes from dusk until midnight. The volcano underwent a renovation and was reopened in December of 2008.

I was married in vegas 6/9/06; we ate at Le Cirque in The Bellagio afterwards. It was delicious traditional French dining, with a view of the fountains.... HOWEVER it was not cheap ($500 for the two of us for a 6-course dinner with wine paired with each course). I obsessed like CRAZY about where to eat, and I have to say this was perfect.
The following night we ate at Hugo's in the Four Queens (in old Vegas). This was the runner up choice, and it was just as good (if not better). Walking into the Four Queens caught us off guard (because it's the older section of Vegas), but dinner (filets) was out of this world. Nice, cozy setting and phenomenal service at both places.
Go to www.tripadvisor.com - that's where I did all of our research. The people on there have soooo much input, and it really really helps.

Zoomanity at NY NY is the sexiest of all the Circus De Sole. There is an Irish restaurant at the bar that is good also. If you are going to gamble, get a comp card and use it for discounts at the buffet. If you eat there you will be full for the rest of the day.

It all depends what you like. There's a really good steak house at Circus Circus. There are also buffets in many of the hotels, most of which are reasonably priced.
As far as shows go, there's lots of them. For instance, if you want to see Celine or Elton, be prepared to buy your tickets now, and for them to be expensive.

Your best plan is to eat off the strip b/c their prices have gone up. However, some places do offer freebies. Type in Las vegas freebies & you can get connected to all sorts of deals. The shows are very expensive but you can still get deals by looking online.
