Canned foods should always be your LAST choice. Fresh is always the best and next best is frozen. The less cooking the more vitamins. Canned foods have the most preservatives and additives and usually way too much sodium although there are many canned foods now that are low sodium. Frozen is nice and easy but beware of the fat and other additives. This is one BIG reason for obesity. People would be much healthier and leaner if they ate mostly fresh foods.

fresh foods are best, there is no comparison, although canned vegetables are ok, fresh vegetables are better because the nutrients and vitamins they hold are at their maximum the moment they are picked, and then start to fade, so although canned vegetables look the same they are not as nutritious as fresh. there is also the preservative issue, ie chemicals added to increase shelve life etc which is unnatural. however canned foods can offer a source of food if there is no fresh vegetables availiable because for example, they may be out of season - but with the way food is transported in todays world, it is less of a problem getting hold of fresh veg all year round (good luck with your homework) :)

Rob is right. Canned foods have preservatives that are not needed in fresh foods. Also, the canning process destroys some of the vitamins and nutrients and are present in fresh foods.

The canning process generally involves adding a lot of salt/sodium and other chemicals.

And quite a bit of the nutrition and flavor is lost in the process.

Almost always (canned tuna & salmon are the exception) fresh is better for your health.

But canned will do in a pinch and is better than fast food anyday.

Usually fresh is better.

However,if the fresh food is grown in seriously polluted soil or in seriously polluted air, the canned food grown in a better position is better.

Food grown near a nuclear accident is not good to eat

It's always better to eat fresh food. Basically, the longer something is off the vine (or tree or whatever) the more nutrients it loses.

Fresh foods are better because they hold the nutrients that are beneficial for our body. They also just taste a whole lot better. Canned foods lose nutrients, have added preservatives that aren't good for our body, and aren't always tastey. = )

No, fresh food is ALWAYS better. Think of canned food as "dead" food, and fresh food as "living" food... which would you rather put in your body?

Besides, all the preservatives in canned food... just yuk.
