Does any one know what they do if a woman is pregnant like 6 months pregnant and she dies in a car accident. When they bury the body, do they remove the baby? Or would they just leave the baby in the mom because their both death anyways??

It depends on wether they think they can save the baby,
If the baby has already died then they bury them both together,
Speaking from experience some questions you really shouldn't ask and this is one of them,
There are expectant mothers reading this section,
My baby died during labour and it's not very nice to be reminded, cos I nearly died too

This is a very legitimate question because it's a question I had and found by searching. A 26 year old young lady who is like my daughter was 7 months pregnant with twins. She laid down to sleep one night and never woke. Her mom mentioned to me that I could come to the cemetery to visit them anytime. There would be three headstones with the mom in the middle and boys on either side with benches between the headstones. I had assumed they would all be laid to rest together in the same plot/casket but apparently they will rest separately in three plots. Yes, this is a very hurtful thing to think about but let's face it, it happens. I will miss my "baby girl" and always wish I had the chance to hold the boys and kiss their beautiful faces. God bless anyone who has to experience this.

If a woman were in a car crash they might would try to do a c-section and try to save it but if she is already dead then they are not going to remove the baby and she would be buried pregnant. But the baby would be born anyhow and that is called coffin birth. Look it up on the internet.

PA law requires that the mother be kept alive until the baby reaches term, unless there is no chance that the baby is going to make it, or the baby is already dead. Many people do not now that. But if a woman has an Advance Directive or Living Will (those things that say I do/do not want tube feeding, life support, etc) that document is null and void while she is pregnant. The state must keep her alive until the baby is full term, then her wishes may be followed as stated in her Living Will.

I realize that is not what you asked, but I decided to provide some information that may be useful and not so sick and morbid.

Depends on how far along she was and if the baby can be saved. If not, then it depends once again on how far along she was. If she was in the later part of the 3rd trimester then the family might wish to name the baby and place it in a separate grave. Every state is different on this. In Oregon, I believe if the baby is born after 6.5 mos and is dead, you have to name it and bury it.

First off they would do an autopsey on the mother no matter what, yes the baby would be removed at the time of autopsey then the baby would be back with the mother, My husband is a Funeral Director there is your answer.

no they remove the baby!
And you have to pay to bury the baby also it is counted as a body.
And if it is cremated there will also be a charge for the baby separate from the mother even if it is placed in the same coffin as the mother.

The womb is a amazingly tough and protective space. They would check to see if baby is alive, even if mom is expired.. Of course, if there is a chance of baby being alive, they would save it by c-section.
