1995 Dodge Ram 3.9 V6 with 225,000 miles
Water pump went out replaced with lifetime warranty pump from Auto Zone.
I drove it after installing pump and I have a very loud fan noise. I put on a new fan clutch. I still have same fan noise sounds like fan on a Mack truck. Also now the temp will get to 225 then cool down to 200 then heat right back up at higher speeds.
Could Auto Zone have gave me a bad fan clutch or did I do something wrong?
How much resistance should fan have when cold? Now I tap fan and it stop immediately both cold and hot.
Basically I just replaced water pump and now I have this very loud fan. The fan actually louder than engine when I take off.

If you routed the serp belt wrong, it could be turning the water pump backwards.

Is there any way the fan could have been put on backwards? that would account for the noise I believe. The clutch should not be the problem, you get the noise all the time whereas the clutch changes the fan speed at temp changes yet the noise is constant. Just check to make sure the blades are not reversed.

You may want to check that the fan blades are not bent or loose. Also, ( I've seen this by licensed mech's at the shop) when they reinstalled the blade assy on the fan clutch, they put it on backwards causing the air to be blown out the front of the truck rather than through the rad onto the engine. Other possibilities include a misaligned fan shroud and an obstruction to air flow at the front of the rad by debris.

For the heat problem change the thermostat to a 180 degree.... the clutch fan is turned on by tempature....it is on because of the heat at 200-225 degrees..... so the fan is working, it will be loud beacuse it is locked in and spinning as fast as the engine is turning... I would start with a new thermostat.
