Runescape.com is a rpg that is online and you don't download it.

Its a massive game with loads to do that you will be playing for years. (and its free)

You live in the middle ages, you are required to keep track of your food and belongings, etc. You even have to learn how to make a fire. There are battles and character interactions as well.

My kids like it a lot.
