Yes the best things in life are the simple things: Love, in my opinion, is the best thing in life. Everything else stems from Love. From this you get family, the appreciation of nature and anything natural such as the air we breathe, the appreciation of animals of the land, sea and sky and their contribution to the circle of life. The seas, oceans, springs and rivers, rain and the rejuvenation of the lands. There are numerous things that bring so much joy if we only take the time out to look, listen, hear, taste, smell and feel. If we could all have a bit more love and care for the environament and our fellow human beings - the world would be a much better place.

Great question Bluejay!
For me the best things in life are both simple and free: a smile from someone, sharing something funny or beautiful, trees on a hillside, a beautiful view, a wonderful beach with interesting rock pools, a woodland walk with shafts of sunlight, a walk in gentle rain, looking at a spider's web on a misty morning, the sunrise.........
To be happy, spending lots of money on unnecessary material things is not required. Simplicity and beauty can go together.

Anything free can be a problem. The simple things in life are the best.
Lazing by the sea or sitting under a tree at sunset with friends and family who you are happy to share a mango or coconut with is simple but very comforting.

I wholeheartedly agree with you.
In a consumer based society, gratefully there are some things that are beyond any meaningful value.
Seeing your life partner smiling at you.
Holding hands whilst watching the sunset.
Feeding the ducks at the local park.
That first precious kiss each morning.
A baby's smile.
Or just being told by someone else "I love you"
Money is merely a tool belonging to a person, company or country, not a statement of character or reputation.
The truly wonderful things in life are free. You just have to find your own persona in this life to grasp the concept.
Thank you for a wonderful question!

Bluejay you are spot-on. We are so busy trying to "improve" our situation that we neglect the simple things in life, which don't cost money, just time, which we should all try to use for the simple pleasures of life.Others have already listed the things that are simply the best , one that I would add is get up very early in the spring and listen to the dawn chorus, it's amazing.Having said that we should remember that we are only here for a short time and should try to enjoy every day.

The simplest and most basic things in life are life itself and the supply of air. The conscious mind, the ability to think and to distinguish good from evil are general too. Then, we have our free will to make choices even they might be wrong and cause harm to ourselves. These are free, aren't they ? The price tag after is not the cost but the consequence. And the consequence could be a benefit or a loss, for sure.

Not necessarily. It could also be a ride in an Rolls Royce to a ballet, followed by a meal in a three star restaurant. Neither simple, nor free, but one of the best ways to spend your day.
