As much as people will hate to hear this, Burton has been doing this for years. They call it pressure distribution edges and while not as exaggerated as Magnatraction, it's pretty much the same idea. Magnatraction does work pretty well though and you can fully detune your edges and still carve, which is an amazing thing. However, I find that it doesn't carve quite as well as a traditional style board with sharp edges. So, if you're a jibber that loves riding rails and boxes, Magnatraction is great. If you're more of an all mountain rider a traditional style board works a bit better. I also found Magnatraction to do some funky things (hooked and submarined a bit) in deep powder.

I bought the T.Rice model this season and the board rocks. On this board, I have been able to hold an edge on a solid sheet of ice. I believe that the edges came detuned from the factory, but despite this they still hold and carve like crazy. The board is also pretty light and has a crazy amount of pop.

Also Lib is owned by Quicksilver who also owns Gnu. Some of their boards also have Mag in case you like them better.

my friend has magnatraction and he hits boxes and rails all day and then goes and races and he says he can still hold his edge great. i race too and after a full day of doing boxes and rails its hard to keep my edge when im racing. but magnatraction hecka rocks. if you demo it the guys will like. file down the edges before you do it just so you can see how great it is.
