Using the so-called 'big' words wouldn't necessarily make your essay smart. What you need are facts about the subject, and express them in a simple, coherent and interesting way to hold the reader's attention.
This does not mean that you should limit your vocabulary to the basics. It always helps to improve ones vocabulary and to use more difficult words that one comes across, in his writing. You need to read a lot of others' essays and good literature, look up dictionaries for the correct spelling and meaning of new and difficult words, and remember them so that you could use them at the appropriate time. This is not an easy task, but if you persist in your efforts, you would start using different words as a matter of course.
I don't think there would be any specific websites where you would get 'big' words to suit writing on any subject. I wouldn't like to resort to short cuts, even if there are any such sites..
If an idea can be expressed in simple language rather than by use of jargon, more people would be able to appreciate what you write. I don't think life should be made very complicated for a discerning reader of essays.

Essays that "sound clever" do no longer unavoidably have "vast words". What they do have are sparkling outlines, concise paragraphs following the define, and, usually, complicated sentences. while you're making use of common sentences and stick vast words in them, tremendously if the word are no longer used properly, your essay will sound something yet clever. it would be extra desirable to apply common sentences that stick to the define and coach which you recognize each and every of the words you utilize.

Essays that "sound smart" don't necessarily have "big words". What they do have are clear outlines, concise paragraphs following the outline, and, generally, complex sentences. If you are using simple sentences and stick big words in them, especially if the word are not used correctly, your essay will sound anything but smart. It would be better to use simple sentences that follow the outline and show that you understand all the words you use.
