W-2s are the form that your employer sends out to you at the beginning of the year that provides information about your pay for the year....your gross wages, the total federal taxes paid, social security paid, medicaid paid, state witholdings, local wages and taxes, etc...

A W-2 is the form your employer sends you by 1/31 of each year. It shows things like: how much you made last year, how much you paid in federal, state, and local taxes. Also, some things like if you donated some of your earnings to charity, participated in a 401k, or did a FSA while at work. I'd say the W-2 is the number one form you need to do your taxes each year.
