Hot water raises body temperature and increases blood flow, because your vessels become elastic and pliable longer due to regular dilation and contraction from the process of heating and cooling the body repeatedly. The heart rate increases creating a demand for more oxygen, providing a mild workout for the heart.

So basically, it's like doing a workout in the shower without ever having to do any physical exercise. And that is enough to make you tired and sleepy.
