Haynes Manual
What you do is get the Haynes Repair Manual for your Year and model of vehicle at Auto Zone, or another automotive repair shop. The manual will show you what and how to do the repairs.
The best way is to spend $20-$30 and replace your heater core. The vents are so small that once you get them plugged up, it is nearly impossible to clear them. Whether your thermostat works, antifreeze or not, the water is hot when it circulates thru the core, so change it. The thing about cleaning out your heating core is a good idea, but then it will only help a little bit.
Then you will learn about ALWAYS running a radiator flush thru your car at least every two years, if you plan to keep the car forever like me. I have had a 92 Ford Explorer and have not replaced the heat core yet. Cuz I make sure to run the radiator flush once a year. I did replace the radiator last year, cuz it was leaking from the seams. But otherwise, I always got hot air. Now I know i will eventually replace it, but not in the next couple of years anyway.

i own a repair shop, and it may need to have the complete system flushed out on it,usually this means the coolant is no circulating real good on it ,and this causes the heat to not be as good as it should,if you have a good warm place to work you can drain all the coolant from it and flush it real good with a water hose ,and flush it both ways, this gets anything that might be stuck in it,and take the heater core hoses off of it,and flush the heater core separately, you,ll be surprised at what will come out of it,and then make sure its all drained and then fill it back up,and you should get good heat, and it might be a bad idea to change the thermostat while your at it,that always helps give more heat, good luck i hope this help,s.
