ok so heres the story. my gf get the worst cramps so bad that she cant lay down or just crys. today i went over to her house( she has her period) she answered the door , didnt say a word and went right back downstairs on the couch and layed with the hot water bottle. i came downstairs took the waterbottle off of her, sat her up and layed her so her head was on my chest and legs were over my legs..i put the water bottle back on her stomach and comforted her to try to get her to go to sleep.
is there anything else i could do for her? i hear that if you sit her in the upright position it makes the cramps less painfull.is that true?....she takes midol but i dont think it is helping her...please give your advice.

What a great and understanding boyfriend you are! Cramps can be terrible. Just baby her and sometimes rub her belly (sounds silly, but it worked for me). Midol is OK, but Advil works better. Hot water bottle is good too or a heating pad. I don't know about sitting upright. That never worked for me. In fact, standing really makes it worse.

She may need to go on the birthcontrol pill. If that's not a possibility due to age/religion then try to increase the amount of calcium in her diet. She could also try some other pain meds instead of midol, Ibuprofen, tylenol, aleve(make sure to read the bottle for dosage instructions). Good luck, she's lucky to have ya there to help.

hate to be the messenger of bad news but no. the same thing happens to me. I was always told that it would be better after having kids. never happened. midol did nothing for me but to make me sick to my stomach. the only thing I know of that may help is birth control pills. it shortens the period there for shortening the pain. but the pill can be dangerous. it gave me blood clots in my face. so I just had to suffer it out. I hope a doctor can give her a better alternative. have her see a doctor. maybe something new has come out I don't know about. good luck.

that is so sweet of you to try to help her.. but there is nothing you can do. :( but she might want to go the doctor so they find out why they are so mad. they might put her on brith control for it. or she should paying attention to her caffeine intake, eating a more balanced diet with more fruits and veggies, and getting more exercise.or try "Oona PMS 2 For Cramps" from Drugstore.com
have it on good authority that this product works the best for bad cramps. It is made with Cramp Bard which is an herbal compound mixed with ginger. My friend says she's tried other brands but this one from Drugstore.com is the only one that works for her.
using a heating pad on the abdomen
eating a healthy diet, exercising regularly
try taking ibuprofen

good luck

Not everybody rsponds to the same medication. best to try a few different ones. Try to get her some ibuprofen, try advil and even tylenol and if those dont work, take her to the doctor and try to get some prescription naproxen. Its a stronger drug than any of that over the counter stuff.

Well a nice bath can help. Make sure she has a good nutrition and that exercices regularly. If she does all that and the cramps are still really bad, she can go see a doctor and he can prescribe her something, like the pill.

tell her to call her obgyn or family doctor see if she can get a prescription of motrin[not tylenol] 6-800mg usually will do the trick.the heating pad and warm bath are comforts as well .but i highly recommend the motrin not the over the counter stuff not potent enough.you are very sweet to be there to comfort .believe it or not you are helping lots! hope she appreciates it.
