NOT GOLDFISH! NOT GOLDFISH! NOT GOLDFISH!
Hope this gets your attention, goldfish are NOT, I repeat, NOT a low maintenance fish. NO FISH should be labeled as a low maintenance fish anyway, they always will need all the care you can possibly give them. Call them easy to keep fish instead.
The Betta is probably the most easy to keep, since they don't need as much space and as high quality water as other fish(this doesn't mean they wouldn't prefer it) Goldfish need these things much more.

That's almost a trick question. Any well set up tank with typical tropical or coldwater fish is easy to maintain. Unless you are talking abut fish with special care needs, one is nearly the same as the next. The most important thing is that you aren't so much caring for a fish but an entire tank, even if the tank has only one fish. An aquarium is a complete environment and the entire thing must be maintained. A well set up tank will take ony minutes each day to feed and less than a hour once a week to clean, that's for goldfish, guppies, bettas or most of the others you will find at a pet store.

Every fish is different in their maintenance requirements, but every fish, nonetheless, has relatively equal maintenance requirements, which are still significant. You must understand cycling water, proper water changes and tank cleaning, filtration, heat, water testing, identifying and treating diseases, etc. If you aren't willing to devote a certain amount of time each week to the proper care and maintenance of a living animal, I would suggest not getting a fish, or any animal, until you are ready to provide the kind of care that they require. In this case, probably a glass/plastic fish would be your best choice. Please think carefully first, about all that is required to take care of a living creature so that it is healthy and happy before taking on the care of the animal. Thanks and good luck!

If the fish is in a proper sized tank with a filter then they all have the same maintenance, which would be weekly water changes of about 10-20%. If you keep a fish in something too small, in an overstocked tank or without a filter then you would have to do more water changes.

The classic low maintenence fish is the goldfish, which is highly underrated in its beautiful variations.

Next is the beta, whose only need is to fight with another of its species. You need to keep them separated with a mesh or in separate jars, moved close.

If you can't stand to see combatants, you want the swordfish (ironically peaceful), which you might combine with a catfish as they tend to take care of each other at a distance. The catfish stays at the bottom and prefers food that other fish would consider spoiled.

good luck

Sounds basic, but any gold fish or koy is a very simple fish to have. They come in many sizes, colors and shapes so they aren't boring. They have basic food needs with no high expence. Don't need filters or fancy extras, just air and an occasional tank cleaning. EASY keepers!

A good ol' Gold fish. They can survive in normal water and the food they need is cheap.
