Being patriotic is surely ridiculus as an idea.... loving a piece of land, and having respect for people simply because they are from the same piece of land as you. If the land is so good then it can be shared, surely being a multi-ethnic society has made our countries what they are today and we can be proud of the great people?
have i missed something about patriotism?

i am also proud to be brittish, not proud of brittain, and i do not like it as much now as i did a few years back...
being patriotic just seems to be a sweeping statement of blindness.

Being patriotic is like being religious, they are taught and used as weapons. Look at all the lads that died in the first world war, for king and country, poor souls. If they had only known how they were to be used and abused? We all have to have guidelines but ignorance is the essence that people will play on to get what they want at anyones expence.

The USA and UK are trying to clamp down on patriots because they will be a threat to the plans to hand the countries over to the globalists who are the secret rulers of the world and are setting us up to accept a New World Order.
This is the reason the UK has banned it's citizens from owning guns and the reason there is a lobby in the USA who are trying to overturn the constitution and take away the right to bear arms.
Major globalist leader David Rockefeller has stated "We are on the verge of a global transformation. All we need is is the right major crisis and the nations will accept the New World Order".

Why is it a ridiculous idea , being patriotic means you value the standards and beliefs of your country and as my father and countless others put their lives's on the line for it ! I'm proud to be British !

Don't know.... maybe it's because, you know how gays try too hard to be the other gender, how guys who never had sex constantly talks about it, and how a race tries to be another race and they over do it??? Well, America has no culture, and just like other countries who represent their country, so do we, BUT we really don't have a reason to be showin off our flag, we try to be something that we're not, we're not cultural, so we over do it. Just like the gays, guys who had no sex, and different race wanna-be's.

I agree with you. I am particularly irritated by the FLAG obsession which thank goodness we Brits do not have. Obsessional devotion to inanimate objects , statements of loyalty to the flag( pledge) and gestures (the hand on heart syndrome) are wholly misguided and do not represent the true values of any society.
I doubt whether many Americans will agree with me however.

the first thing i've said to my kids about america and always have said as they've grown up, is america is made up of many cultures as far back as i can remember, that is the beauty of our land, why would you think we are just now multi-cultured, this has been going on for as long as america has been here!

as you can see this is my first answer. yours is a wonderful questions and does not need an answer, you summed it up very well. i would go one step further and call patriotism a modern day "CANCER" which is eating away all form of normal civil society.
i'm not much of an answerer of question but yours needed an answer from me.
in every country this so called patriotism is leading to nationalism and this is bringing out all sorts of ugly monsters with many heads and faces.

seems to me that the people who share the land tend to criticise it as soon as things dont go their way. If you share, you should also contribute and by doing so the nation becomes stronger as a nation......colour or race is not the issue, respect is.

It's not about land. It's not about anything physical. It's about the people of ones country, its past, and what's been done to preserve it.

I agree, and in fact, I would go even further and say that patriotism leads to blind nationalism. And blind nationalism is just one more thing (along with religion) that can be used to manipulate people.
