a common question that is asked many times over,as windows is used it slowly gets slower and slower over time due to registry entries and stuff that get abandoned as we install and uninstall programs,a good program for cleaning up your hard drive is the winoptimiser suite from www.ashampoo.com its quite cheap too, when i first ever used it i took over 400mb of rubbish off of my hard drive and it was way faster and more stable afterwards.boot time also depends on how many programs you have that start automatically when windows starts, many people have scanner ,printer, messenger ,etc etc start automatically when windows starts, all this achieves is to increase your start up time and waste resources that your pc could use for things you are running at the time, all the icons in your system are using memory and the fact is if your not running it then shut it down or better still stop them from starting automatically in the programs preferences or options.also be sure to defragment your hard drive now and then as it greatly increases the speed at which it can acces your programs and data.many tips on this subject at www.oldversion.com

You should cleaning unnecessary file on the daily basis and making sure your computer is in a good health. However, every operating system boots longer over time as we are installing different kind of applications and most of all software and the system updates as well as virus definitions. When you add to all this different sorts of spyware software that installs itself on your computer along with some other software, you get that your computer is booting slower or losing its performance over time. Regular and proper system maintenance can help.

They will get slower if you never clear the memory, use disk clean up, clean up your internet history using control pannel.
Also the longer you have a computer the more you will install which means its opening more when you boot it you.
Have a look on msconfig and see what you don't need to boot up at startup.
To look at msconfig you go on the run option on start and type in msconfig
Hope this helps.

you probably have too many programmes on your start up, so your comp is taking all that time in ensuring it opens all teh programmes. mine was slow and i took it in (luckily my work techies did it for me) and they just asked which progs i used on a regular basis and shifted the ones i didnt use (media ones mainly)- not deleted, but these would just be opened on demand not as a matter of course. perhaps thats your problem? may be you could take it some place to do that for you?
