Why are some White people on Yahoo Answers upset that people in Africa,China or not America are getting aid... they use this lame excuse that there are so many white people/ nonwhite americans that need aid why are celeberties helping others? Isn't that being greedy, I mean Americans are so much better off than those in other countries. I think that is just so low... what do you think?

in my opinoin, I don't care who's getting aid as long as people are bein helped, but I think other people feel that it is a good idea to be fully well before having concern for other nations. It does seem a bit greedy and selfish, but if u think about it openly, it does kinda make sense. It's kinda like how some people say we should fix the world itself before we go exploring outer spae, only on smaller terms.

Because we want to take care of our own (Americans, not just white Americans) before we can help others. There is a lot of need in this country that needs to be addressed before all of you "feel good" liberals tackle the world problems. If you want to enrich someone, try looking in your own back yards.
Besides, historically speaking, everytime we've rendered foreign aid, it either goes to that country's military (N. Korea, for example) to to the wealthy war lords in the Aftrican countries who are mistreating their own citizens. These countries have ALWAYS bitten the (American) hands that have fed them. Any more questions, Ms Do-gooder?
I know your heart is in the right place, but you need to be more aware of the global situations that have made these countries so needy in the first place.

A small correction first..China is not as "well-off' as the US, in terms of wealth and overall standard of living its not even close. As for the main question, a lot of people are reluctant for money to be spent on humanitarian aid to 3rd world countries because the record shows that much of this money does not go to the people in need. It is either spent to defray the payroll costs of humanitarian groups ( money is needed to supply the aid workers and get them to these countries, etc.) or it ends up in the hands of elites or warlords in poor nations who line their own pockets and could care less about the plight of their countrymen. making things even more difficult, oftentimes various armed groups in poor nations will block aid to people in need if those people happen to be of a rival ethnic or religious group. So, despite the best of intentions, money donated for a good cause is often needlessly wasted. Its unfortunate, but sometimes the way things turn out.

It makes a lot more sense to help one's own people then foreigners. Because Americans are Americans, like one big (not so happy) family. They feel that one's family is more important than strangers. And it is true, most money goes to people that don't need it, i.e government.
Think about it, in a closer more personal level: Do you save your cousin in a fire, or the man that swore at you last week?

Not all Americans are better off than people in poorer countries. In the USA, there are 2.6 times more poor White people than poor Black people. It's a fact.

Giving them aid is a short term fix. They really need to sort their own country out themselves. Too many children, too much corruption. We in the west were in their situation a hundred years or more ago, but we constructed sewers, roads, water treatment systems, made advances in agriculture, science, medicine, transport. They need to leave their archaic ways behind and concentrate on progress.

im white and think that other places are getting help but if ur refencing to the "war'' in iraq im gonna have to say that the money we spend trying to control their country could be better spent helping our homless and the people in africa and other 3rd world countries and china is actually much better off than america and will surpass us as the worlds super power
