I've been on the patch for 2 months now. Yesterday was my patch change day and it's my patch free week. If i have sex before I get my period this week, will I still be protected from pregnancy?

Yes, you will be protected from pregnancy, so long as you've worn a patch for at least 21 days, which basically puts your ovaries to sleep. During the hormone-free week, the ovaries do wake up and begin the normal pre-ovulatory process, but seven days is not long enough for the follicles to fully develop. This is why it's important not to go more than seven days without a patch-if you do, you may give the ovaries enough time to wake up and begin the ovulation process.

Yes, you will still be protected. Read the insert for your birth control carefully, it should have that information there for you. And the patch is not the most unreliable form of birth control. I would like to see KTs source for her comments. I've been using it for 4 years and haven't gotten pregnant yet! I've followed the directions and not skipped or forgotten change days. You do just have to be careful with the patch because there can be a higher risk of blood clots forming in your body and causing problems compared to other hormonal birth control.

i believe so, but the patch is known as the most ineffective form of birth control medication so i would have a condomn on hand anyway.
