it is like a long pause when they first meet and it literally scares me. i feel for my black friends. afraid that they are not feeling secure around my white friends. i want to be myself and not worry. what do you recommend? thanks for any input.

Hi cajun,
Sorry to hear of your discomfort.. You some people are people oriented and others are not..There are to many different types of people out the.. Some pick their group of friends by characteristics others by looks unfortunately, and there are also those who pick the popular crowd... I think the hardest thing here is having the expectations that u'r black friends will get with u'r white friends...Expectations is really what hurts as we can not change other people ( besides there are too many of them) in how they feel, what they choose and so on..Overall, if I want to be a friend, I would just hang with my groups on separate occasions. Should one want to meet other that they may mention it to you, and then you can do your wonders...
We need not to push anything on anyone; besides, how do you really know that it is what they want??? It does not mean cos you would like something that they would...
Your intentions are super mind you, but unfortunately you are putting yourself in a situation of disappointment as you can see..

u should go to the black ones and ask them how they feel about the white ones and then do the same to the white ones.and sit them down at lunch and tell them wat each other said and let them sit there and fix it.i had friends like that but not in different etch.groups.i mostly have white friends and i am black.

let things happen. i think there might always be an awkward silence that some of us arent going to get over, but like u said u cant control what people think so dont try.

hmm, i fell for you on this one, because i live in a place with an even amount of black and whites, so um... some blacks don't like to talk to some whites who aren't like you or something like that, NOT AT ALL TRYING TO BE RACIST JUST COMING FROM MY PERSPECTIVE.

sure is suprrized to hear this. i mean this day and age its suposet o be nothing to do with race i mean we are all equal and all but i dont' know what to do i mean its not color of skin just firends and they should all get over it.
