Your body will tell you that.
Remember that sleep comes in cycles. We don't just close our eyes and sleep and then wake up.
The brain undergoes cycles of ca. 30 minutes each in different sleep states:
alpha
theta
delta
Alpha is the lightest sleep (from which you wake up easily and quickly).
Theta is a deeper sleep during which dreams are had
Delta is the deepest sleep. No dreams, just the body cells regenerating.
Therefore, the '8 hours' concept is actually not a good one.
You should have 5 sleep cycles per night. Some people need more, some less.
Since each cycle takes 1.5 hours to complete, 7.5 hours is a good sleep length.
At 7.5 hours, you're just starting a new Alpha cycle from which it is easier to wake up.
If you set your alarm in such a way that you get 7.5 hours sleep, you'll find that you wake up easily. It is WAY harder to wake up after 8 hours from a Theta or after 8.5 hours from a Delta Sleep.

At least 8 hours, but everyone is different. I'm in my 30's and can get by on 6 hours where just a few years ago I needed almost 10 hours a night to make it through. I've always been a sleeper.

Depends on the person, but on the average most people require 8 hours. Some people more some less. I try to get at least 8 hours a night, I can't function if i get less than 6.

8 hours, like most adults.
If you are having sleep problems, get your blood sugar checked out. Low blood sugar during the evening/night can cause lots of problems with sleep as well as nightmares.
