Do you think its necessary?

Personally, I would say yes it is necessary. In fact, I have my background checked every time I receive or renew a contract.
It is vital to the corporations success.I mean I certainly would not want any criminals working for me. It also depends on what the infraction is. If is it a felony definitely not.Minor misdemeanors I would be wiling to overlook.

Background checks have become a part of the process for most new hires by employer's.I also have to be drug tested and alcohol tested as well. It is part of the employment requirements and also federal law for the type of work I do.

I have become so accustomed to it that I am always prepared for these tests. It does not even phase me anymore as I have had hundreds of these checks.

That is my take on a very good question, You wont have anything to worry about as long as you are a good, law abiding
citizen of your country which, I am sure you are. Thank you :p

I have to look at it from the side of the corporation. They have a lot riding on the integrity of their employees. If the employee of a corporation does anything illegal, fraudulent or endangers the well being of that corporation's "customers"...the corporation gets sued because that's where the money is.

Even in a little mom and pop operation, if that was MY business that I worked so hard to build, I'd sure want to know what kind of people I had working for me.

If we are talking about a position where one will be giving care to another... especially children or the elderly... I believe in a background check.

If we are talking about a position where one will be handling sensitive information like credit card numbers, personal info, social security numbers, I believe in a background check.

If we are talking about someone to pump my gass, or do something of the like, I do not believe in background checks.

Background checks in my opinion are the right of the company who is doing the hiring.

It is also within the right of the company doing the hiring to test my blood for drugs, etc.

While it is their right, I would consider those companies evil for doing so if it was not demonstrably critical to job performance, and I would never do business with them (or work for them).

yes especially if you are going to be working with people. They don't want to have someone who has been convicted of a crime in their business. I don't want to work next to an ex con because i will feel unsafe. I know people make mistakes and jail is supposed to correct it but it is not forgotten and it is their fault for messing up

Absolutely! The company is only protecting itself.

They will spend time and money on your while you are employed there and want to make sure you haven't done anything sinister in your past.

I think it's a great idea, but then, I have nothing to hide.
