I know that the first Sims games required you to keep the disc in the machine while playing it, but I'm planning on sharing it when I get it so I need to know whether I can play it without the disc.

um you can install the sims 2... buy the sims 2 nightlife or any expansion pack...install it...and share the sims 2...but you need the disc for the expansion pack...

sims 2 requires the disc, unless you have an expansion pack, then you can use that instead.
