I believe you are in the UK... I am not sure the prices and brands avaiable in there. SInce you just need for Internet , music , and so on... Buy the cheapest avaiable... and spend the rest for something else. You do not need any complicated computers for those task to be complete...

Personally would go for Dell. Good support (services and site) and good products. This weekend (until 19th so get in quick) they have deals:
http://www1.euro.dell.com/content/products/features.aspx/notebooks_good?c=uk&cs=ukdhs1&l=en&s=dhs
Even if you don't want to use it for much, you may as well get the best you can afford. Better for selling on, and who knows what you might want it for in the future...

have you considered getting a reconditioned laptop? they had some on the gadget show (channel five) that were really cheap - there was an apple for less than £200. you could see if you have any computer reconditing places in your local area and check them out - it's worth a look x

Try the Advent 8109 from pc world. It has very good specs and I love it, I bought one two weeks ago and I can't see anything wrong with it. You get the vista upgrade free too.
