Not to be funny but that's like asking how much does a car cost. It all depends on what you want it to do and how many bells and whistles it has. I picked up a very nice used fan driven one a few years ago for $150 and it continues to work great and looks good too. You can get a very basic one for around $250. One with a fan starts around $350. If you are into style more than basic function you can spend thousands.

Depending on your wishes-- I priced a soapstone insert recently-- would run about $3000.00-- A friend has one and states it heats her 1800 foot home quite well-- she has gas heat but prefers wood-- uses about 4 ricks a year-- even with this year being quite a bit colder than usual.
