I believe all religions are created with a dominionist ideology. Dominionism is a form of dictatorship and has no relationshiop to democracy. It seems we will do anything if we are promised reduced suffering and an after life.
Have you noticed that religious followers deivide between the humble compassionate sole and the crusaider?I have a bad feeling that we are not done with the crusades or witch burnings.
Why are we not questioning how we are being manipulated right now in north america? Notice the controls on the press in Canada and the US?Notice the self sensoring that is going on?
Am I right?

Sorry "Alan S", Freedom OF Religion was never a concern of the founding fathers. The establishment of a government controlled religion WAS of great importance to them. Keep governement out of the business of religion and they felt the rest of us would do just fine regardless of what religion we participated in.

Will religion be the death of us? Now there is a real thinking persons question. Quite couragous too by the way. I think that we live in a world that is "overgrown" with religion while at the same time living in a world that is practically devoid of spirituality.

I also believe that "religion" is and has been the basis for most of the ills that mankind has been dealing with for almost forever. Yes I know that there have been some benefits, but I honestly wonder if the benefits outweigh the liabilities.

"God save us" [sarcasm intended : ) ] from "true believers". Don't get me wrong. I am a very spiritual person and I feel a very close connection with the source of all existance. I believe that man is "moral" naturally and that the essence of his morality can and should be "developed". Therefore, I also believe that it is of the utmost importance that we as individuals and those we send to "govern us" should be moral to the highest degree possible. What are constituent parts of morality? It isn't faith, love, hope, a supreme being or any of the things that "religions" teach. Morality is composed of an objective exercise of reason and logic. Simple as that and there is no need for religion to get involved in the process whatsoever.

Should we be able to participate in and believe in a "religion"? Of course. As free persons, if that is the pinacle of where our individual reason and logic abilities take us...more power to us. But don't ever confuse government and religion with morality. Leave your "religion" at the door to the government house or at the entrance to the voting booth, it has no place there while MORALITY AND SPIRITUALITY are absolutely REQUIRED THERE.

Oh, and please don't try to convince me that there is no morality apart from "Gooooddddd" or "Religion". Been there and done that and I can state categorically that God and Religion have NOTHING to do with morality. Sorry, get over it.

I agree with you. Yes, I DO think that religion is at the heart of controlling the masses. All you have to do is question why a person believes the way they do about a subject.

A person can be moral without being religious. In fact people IMO are more moral WITHOUT religion. Why? Because they pay more attention to people and not what they have to do to please an imaginary person to get to have a happy afterlife.

The Nazi's were VERY religious...in fact that is how Hitler came to power. So is Bush, supposedly.

We have separation of church and state. Some churches do speak about political issues and encourage their flock to go one way or the other. I don't, however, believe religion will be the death of us. Most people are not gullible enough to follow some preacher's opinion to the letter. They question religious leaders like political leaders and that is what democracy thrives on. When we fail to question totalitarianism thrives whether a theocracy or secular dictatorship.

Religion and Politics should not mix and I don't think you understand the freedoms we have in comparison to other countries. Church and religious beliefs are being demented by fanatics from Persia. Jesus would no be impressed.

You are right. Religion has gone far past it's boundaries. Our enemy has used it against us in so many deceitful-way's. Satan is very clevor, and more intellegent than man can ever imagine. So we must be very watchful and keep our gaurd's up. But be very careful not to block what God comes at us with. Because "He" is our defense against the power's of darkness and DEATH. Put on the "Whole Armor of God", and He WILL defend you. Trust in Jesus!!!

you asked for opinions.... i believe that organised religion throughout the history had been used as means to control masses, but in a very clever way. since it was so clever (and used very good propaganda) it survived until today and still dominates the world which is really sad, but manipulation is what happens.

Why not? Millions of people have already been slaughtered in the name of "God", so why break precedent? A long as there are people who still believe in this mass murdering entity it'll continue

Tell us, then, how the fact that the worst murderers of the last century - the Nazis, the Soviets, the Chinese Communists, the Imperalist Japanese, the Khmer Rouge, etc - who were all ANTI-religion, how do they fit into your theory?

I think you are allowing your belief about this to color your perceptions and give you false images of reality.

Yes, you are half right. Religion will not be the death of us. Other things like Global Warming and War will be the death of mankind. Global Warming is all mankind's fault. War is also mankind's fault. Humans own wrongdoing will cause the death of us all.

Its funny, since part of democracy dictates freedom of religion. You can't have the one and deny the other.
