We bought a house last year with a septic system and we are new to septic systems. My septic tank's distribution box keeps overflowing especially after I have washed several loads of laundry in a row or several people have taken showers in a row. The tank was pumped less than a year ago when we bought the house. We have been using RID X regularly. Do we need to seek a septic tank specialist? Do we need a new septic system? (Please no)

If your distribution box is overflowing, the lines branching from it are most likely jammed up with some really nasty stuff. Technically you should never have to open your box, only your septic tank, for any reason. Actually, if air gets in the lines it can keep the bacterial action that is necessary from happening.

Rid X is one of the best products you can use and was a very smart move on your part. If you have used it as you say there isn't much more you could have done. For the time being, if you have a garbage disposal, don't use it. IMO they should not be allowed on septic systems. You might try opening your box and dipping out any gunk you find there. The box is relatively shallow and easy to get to but may be hard to open. It is possible that will solve your problem but don't hold your breath.

If the system is very old it may need replacing (sorry). Depending on where you live you may be required to have a modern high tech system put in - very expensive - especially if your drain field needs to be relocated.

Possible bonus: If you have had the house for less than a year it may be the responsibility of the previous owner. Your tank would have required an inspection before sale. If this was a known issue prior to sale and the proper wording was in your contract (most have it) then your settlement attorney should be able to get the money out of the seller. It's worth checking into.

Good Luck!

You are using more water than your leach bed can handle either the leach bed is clogged or too small for the number of people living in the house some times there is a double leach bed that is supposed to be switched twice a year depends on the requirements in your area your health department should know what type of system you have, sometimes adjusting your water usage can control these problems

Get someone to pump it for you and have it checked out. A reliable cleaner can tell you what the problem is.

Your leach lines may be inadequate for how you use the system.
