I actually do not as I was not born until 1985, I have however read a lot about it. All of the scientists were clamoring that the earth was cooling and that man-made greenhouse gases were keeping the sun's light from reaching the earth and this was going to cause a new ice age. This was not a few scientists either, it was mainstream almost all scientists. Now the fear is global warming....AND another point all the global warming people need to ask is are there very many scientists at all that say we can actually do something about it? Some of them say this is a serious problem and give recommendations for capping emissions and everything, but yet they do not actually give proof that these things will help more than about a tenth of a degree over a 10 year period (which is nothing when you consider how the climate changes over a ten year period on its own...aka from global cooling craze in the 70's and 80's to global warming crazy in the 90's and 00's.)

Actually there was a big clamor on global cooling and it did occur partially in the 70's (to the person that said I was incorrect)

And also to the person that said that they were saying many different things and then settled on global cooling that is incorrect as well. There was a global cooling problem according to the scientists, this was because the earth was in a cooling pahse (the earth goes through cooling and warming phases with or without human's aid) and the scientists were predicting gloom and doom, and then the cooling phase stopped (like happened in the past) and a warming phase started, which is where we are now. In 10-15 years we will probably be back in a cooling phase.

I do! We weren't suppose to have enough food either. We should all be dead according to the same "scientists" preaching global warming now.

Remember the gulf war oil fire predictions? The smoke from just 600 oil well fires was suppose to block out the sun and cause famine. Middle eastern children should have multiple birth defects by now according to them. None of this happened! Yet nobody questions these people!!!

I do. back in the 70's it was clear that we were changing the climate. the scientific community had no model to base the future on so they tried various scenarios to see what would happen. some saw the earth cooling, some saw it warming but they all agreed it was not remaining stable. since then the 30 years of data has clarified that the change was toward warming. there are those that chose to remain ignorant to that fact pulling on old theories and trying to claim it's politically driven.
As for can we do something about it, the answer is yes; we can drop the fossil fuel habit for bio-fuels. bio-fuel has way less greenhouse gases and it balances the sun equation. now, we have all the sun's energy plus the heat from 80,000,000 barrels/day of oil warming us. with bio-fuel (once we produce all we need to fuel ourselves) we will be absorbing as much sun energy into these plants as we are expending in the form of fuel.
The greater question is not CAN WE but rather WILL WE. Sadly, I doubt we will.

I was just a kid in the 70s, and they scared the crap out of me. The hype was pretty similar. I just don't get too excited about anything the scientific community gets all gloom and doom over anymore.

Look at how they do with different foods - they're bad. No, wait - they're good. No, bad again. No, no - good. In moderation. It's crazy.

Incorrect, the science community was not clamoring about global cooling in the 1970's.

I do, I do!!! Paul Ehrlich was the bandleader back then. I believe he wrote a book. Boy, was that guy a bad prognosticator. Does anybody really know about these "models" the scientists are using?

Well, um, if it's not cooling...then it must be warming! Yeah, that's it! And if global warming isn't happening, then...! It must be cooling! See? We're still screwed either way because we are dumb and destroy everything. I am going to go cut myself.
