In Dante's Inferno, what are the main differences between upper and lower hell?

I've read it very carefully and I think my brain is just getting tired.
I'm looking for 3 to 5 differences from Circle's 1-6 to 7-9. Obviously the punishment and crimes are getting worse the closer you get to satan. . .but yeah. . .please help. . .thanks.

The division is actually 1-5 and 6-9.
