many women produce "milk" before labour, any time after approx 24weeks (some I know even earlier) but advice is not to pump until baby is 3 weeks old minimum, as supply is dictated by the act of feeding. Expressing / pumping can help with supply after that, but before, the baby needs the colostrum, and needs to establish his own "supply / demand" relationship with you

It does not mean preterm labor, however, you can CAUSE preterm labor by stimulating your breasts. Do not pump before the baby gets here. (Congratulations by the way!)

edit-No, don't pump even if the baby is late. You want the baby to arrive at his/her choice, as that's what's best. Breast stimulation can bring the labor on too fast, which can create other problems. Also, as someone already said - the colostrum is SO VERY beneficial to the baby, you want it right where it is. (In your breasts) Something else to think about is the flow that your baby will make. If your breasts are already letting a lot of milk out, your baby won't be used to that flow, and will most likely choke. They drink frequently at first, but not a great volume at once. Best to just leave nature as it is.

It is not milk you are producing, it is colostrum. Your milk will come in 3 - 5 days after your placenta is pulled out. You shouldn't pump as it might induce labor (But I tried it on purpose and it didn't work for me}.And don't worry, when your baby is born, you will have enough of extra milk to pump and store, I have been pumping extras since my baby was 3 days old and my husband feeds him from the bottle at night, so I can get some rest.

Hi,

I think most p/g women do this, (produce the colostrum before baby comes) i wouldn't pump or try to get ur milk coming yet as it can trigger miscarriage, ur milk will come once babies born, and the colostrum is the most important stuff as it gives baby all the antibodies they need to see them through the first few days after birth!!!

Hi, You could express and freeze it but I think you can only safely keep it frozen for a max of 3 months. It's a healthy sign of a good milk supply if you are already producing milk ( but also normal if you don't produce any before giving birth ), it's not a sign of impending premature labour

I read that it is not a good idea to stimulate or pump your breast while being pregnant because this may cause early contractions and therefore a preterm baby. I thik you should consult your doctor before doing it! Congratulations on the baby!

its not adviced, i would wait until the baby is 4 weeks before you express hun. have a chat with your midwife, as for producing milk in pregnancy i did too, i would often wake up wet, its your body preparing to feed the newborn, expressing will only encourage more milk and wont eliminate the issue, buy some breast pads and wear a bra to avoid embarrassment xxxx

I'm 17 weeks and I'm already producing milk it's totally normal to produce milk anything from 14 weeks so don't worry, it has nothing to do with premature labour.

you are able to breastfeed your 18 month old as long as you like. you're conscious a alleviation in milk production interior the 2d trimester, yet once you shop extraordinary on nursing, you need to be waiting to get production lower back up. even though that's possibly that your 18 month old isn't totally on your milk in any case and does have some solids besides. Your uborn baby would be completely superb. be certain you get iron, protein, and many water.
