Ibanez GRG 170 or something like that. Good guitar, you can play on it for some years.... Im playing it for like 2 years and i dont plan to sell it yet. It has nice thin neck, 24 frets, 2 hambuckers , 1 single coil, only, the tremolo arm is quite useles , but you can live without that. Try to find decent amp, thats the 90% of your sound!!!

I have an Epiphone SG. Special. This is a good axe for the begining player. There are a couple of things that could be better like the machine heads and the strap knobs but over all the guitar sounds and looks good. You can get this guitar in a player pack that includes a tuner and a small amp, strap and a dvd that gives you a couple basic lessons. The kit was 235.00 American. To me this was a great deal. I have had the guitar for about 2 years and have not had any problems with it at all. The guitar is semi light weight and very comfortable to play for long periods of time. I use a digital delay along with a chorus/flanger and digiteck distortion pedal and it gives me all the crunch that i could want. I have to say that if I ever lost or had it stolen i would buy another. I hope this helps you. I got the guitar at guitar center. oh by the way you can replace the machine heads at low cost so after that minor change you will have a very reliable and good sounding guitar

For that much you could find a fine Yamaha or a decent Ibanez. Steer clear from Epiphone. Ibanez RG models are extremely versatile (3 pickups, 24 frets, tremolo) and they have a whole range from very cheap to over a grand. I think that the legendary RG550 may be found in your budget range, too, with a little luck, and that model is played by pros regularly, one of the greatest guitars ever.
Ah, yeah, this Dea7h guy reminded me - try to get a Floyd Rose or better yet Edge Pro tremolo, since the basic models are pathetic, indeed.

try looking at the Ibanez jumpstart kits. the kit comes with everything you need. the guitar, an amp, a cable, some picks, and even a couple books. it was my first guitar and its only like $250 i think which isnt bad for all that. try looking at any near guitar or instrument shops and if you cant find it there try www.samash.com and search for it there

Peavey.
Try your local music store; they often have a good basic beginner's guitar package for sale. Ask them to tune and play the instrument to prove everything is in good working order. Get their advice on care of the instrument and a good teacher.
