these 2 are different technologies used by Mobiles, if you talk in respect of battery life GSM is gentle on battery. and Network signal are also better in GSM than CDMA (3G),as it is still in it's initial phase. But after few YEARS CDMA seems to very very promising.

CDMA. Gsm just has a better variety of phones.
