I wonder if you are pushing yourself a little too hard to join - it shouldn't be causing you this much stress. Besides, it doesn't really count for a hill of beans out in the real world.

Volunteer hours - YMCA, Boys and Girls Club, Local Library - offer tutoring sessions.

Writing - what you have to contribute that makes anything better.

National Honor Society is an honorary organization that stresses volunteerism. You could see yourself as an active member by volunteering your services to an elementary school reading program or tutoring in your own High School. If you are interested in the arts, you could see yourself volunteering at your local museum or historical society.
In addition, NHS stresses leadership. You could be a part of student government or as an officer for another club or activity at your school. Hope this helps a little.

I just hope you take my advice on this.

I was in high school and applied for National Honor Society. I was rejected because I just fell short on the hours. And I got mad and stressed just like you. However, I still pursues my chosen career of TV production. And now, at age 24, I make three times the teachers who did not pick me. I didn't have the NHS sash for graduation, I was the only smart kid who didn't make it. And you know what, I am more well off then any of them.

Please do not let NHS get you stressed out. If you dont make it, you will still have every opportunity if you did!

DDot covered Leadership and the other thing the NHS looks for is character. Do not write about someone else who has character and do not write about character in the abstract. What the board is looking for is a couple examples in your own life that demonstrates outstanding character.

As for service, their are loads of places you can volunteer. Go to the Public Library, hospital, or senior center. There are so many options it is impossible not to do something you'll enjoy.

Their is no school tomorrow so get out early and get some hours in. Good luck!
