This question is the one people have pondered forever.

The truth is that none of us are further ahead than any other in answering this question.

Human beings try to explain what they cannot understand. People do not understand why we are here, and they do not understand what happens after death.

So they create these fairly-tails... and these fairy-tails are passed down through generations. Eventually, these fairly-tails are deemed credibile, and people adopt these fairy-tails under the concept of religion. Only... what these fairy-tail thinkers have is not really religion... inevitably they follow a certain creed. One creed says X happens after death... but only if you live your life a certain way. Another creed says Y happens, and a different set of criteria apply.

Usually, people imagine what will happen after they die in accordance with their own principles, values, and wishes.

When I die... I hope XXXX happens... and so these people start believing that XXXX happens even though they cannot have any more proof than the next guy who believes something different happens.

Chances are, when we die... nothing happens. We are dead. The years we have on this earth are a gift, and when we die... we're dead.

Am I wrong? I hope so. But far be it for me to presume anything different. I have no evidence, and relying on a special kind of life after death just becomes an excuse to live my life on earth slightly differently than I otherwise might.

For example, people believe that if they "believe" in a religion, and act a certain way, they will earn a spot in heaven. This view point is foolish because it applies human logic to a creator who is not human. A counter view would be to simply live your life in a responsible, honorable way... just because you think it is the right thing to do. What happens after death? Who knows... we'll find out soon enough:)

Yes I certainly do. I can't believe that we live this sh.t life here for nothing and then die and that's it. No I believe that we are here to learn and progress and then once we have learnt all there is we don't return to this dimension.
I surely hope that I don't have to come back here again, I don't know if I've had all the experiences I need to progress but given the choice I won't be back.
My life has not been that bad, it's been hard but not really bad. I've tried to be a decent human being and as I've got older I've mellowed an awful lot.
Life as we know it now is not what there is afterwards, trust me, we just move into another dimension that's all.

In answering this question, I would be moving out of the realm of science and into divinity. But yes I do believe in life after death. I think most people ought to believe in it. It is better for our mental health and well being. And I believe it is true. Death is not the end of life but merely a transformation from one life into another form of life. I believe human beings exist in some other form even after their death. Of course it cannot be proven by science yet, but our scientific knowledge is not complete. One day it may be proven by science too. Absence of proof is not proof of absence.

Yes, 'cos I sure hope to spend the rest of eternity with the people I have cared about!

Surely there has to be something better than this life???

I also find it almost impossible to imagine the waste of all the knowledge, emotions and what makes each person an individual, just being wasted when they die. What an incredible waste that would be?

No, I think there has to be something after this!

No, I don't, but the ancient Egyptians did. Check out the website of Egyptologist Zahi Hawass for more information. I believe that there is a Heaven and Hell.
