I am almost 8 weeks pregnant and i rented a doppler to hear the heart beat. We hear on heart beat on one side of my tummy and one on the other side but nothing in the middle. We think it might be twins because i have been so sick and sleepy it isnt even funny. and i am already getting big. I want to know if you all think it is the babies heart or am i just hearing things.

First of all you may be hearing your own heartbeat. Although the baby has one if it's twins your doctor should notice 2 heartbeats. Good Luck and I've heard those monitors are sketchy in the way they work.

The baby's heart starts beating at 6 weeks.

I have a doppler too. Now my baby I couldn't hear till around 12 weeks. After that I could hear him the every time. What kind of doppler. I rented a medical one worth $500. The cheap ones don't work. Also there always is two heartbeats. You heartbeat echos in the planecta and uterus. So when you hear a heartbeat, find your pulse. If that heartbeat matches.. that one is yours. The other one (or ones as may be in your case) will be much much faster.

Eight weeks is pretty early to catch a heartbeat with a doppler. My doctor didn't locate a heartbeat until more like 10-12 weeks in any of my pregnancies. Easiest way to tell: if what you are hearing is fairly slow, about a beat per second, it's probably your heartbeat you're hearing. Try putting your fingers on your wrist or neck to feel your pulse as you listen. If it matches, you'll know for sure it's your heartbeat. Now, if it's fast, like two to three beats per second (almost a flutter) it's probably the baby - or babies, if that happens to be the case. Good luck with your pregnancy!

at 8 weeks your most likely hearing the echo of your own heart beat. Give it a few more weeks(about 12 weeks gestation) and you will hear it very clear.
Congrats As for twins it is all ways possible but the weight gain is most likely water retention.

I do not think 13 pounds is water weight....... For your answer the baby is a 14mm long and still with 2 or more your placenta amionic fluid and fetus does not weigh 13 pounds. I am not trying to be mean.
babycenter.com will give you a week by week and with twin toon the size

More than likely you are hearing the placenta because you are really unable to hear the heartbeat until around 12 weeks.

How early you are able to listen the child's heartbeat relies upon on many variables. we assume to be in a position to take heed to the child with an amplified doppler through about 12 weeks of gestation -- yet there are a number of of variables to be considered. it is asserted to maximum ideal warmth the heart beat your bladder must be finished. i'm on my 0.33 lol i must understand through now. Congrats!!

You may be hearing the placenta and not two heartbeats.
