You are reading my thoughts. Yes I believe it is!!! I wonder how teenagers will interact when they grow older. I have worked with teenagers and it was unbelievable to see how chatting was taking over their communication skills! they would declare their love for one another on the net, but in person, they could not even look at each other! Young girls who had crushes on boys couldn't tell it to their face, and vice versa. I wonder how they will be able to work out their problems as future couples with families. I am sure there are studies being made right now about this matter. If not, there should be! If any Social psychology students are reading this, this question is a good thesis subject.

It most certainly is. I could also spend time complaining about today's kids not having a real social life (a very good point anyway), but remember that it's not anything you're obliged to do. Each person should use the internet as a personal tool, to gain information, entertainment, friends, but at the same time we should all remember that it is a very inefficient substitute for real social interactions.

The internet definatly does tamper with a person's ability to have a "face-to-face" conversation with another person.
For example, after you talk to people through aim for a long period of time. You start making facial expressions while typing, but since this is infront of a computer and your not actualy talking to the person your not noticing your facial expression and certain things develope that you are not aware of.
Also the human mind needs to speak outloud for it to remember how to do it. when your on the internet you hardly speak outloud.

I think that MySpace is singelhandedly doing a good job of that. It saddens me to see kids who I know used to go out and play or talk to friends just sit all day long glued to a computer screen now. Myspace killed calling and chatting, metting friends for lunch, IMing friends, etc..
