The ideals are that we will establish a nation. In this nation we will have peace, justice, security, prosperity and freedom.
I think we are working hard to preserve those Ideals but they regularly come under attack. These ideals also compete against each other for priority.
I think we are falling down a very slippery slope and we will hit the bottom very very hard. Eventually we will be torn apart from within. In any nation the citizens must have a strong common bond and core belief in the values and the definitions of justice, peace, freedom and security. We don't have that any more. If I say ______ is AMERICAN! Someone will argue, someone will call me a jingoist.
To Mommy: Ideals will never be achieved, but it is important to strive for them. However, I do agree we've grossly expanded government into the rights and responsibilities of the individual.

"We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defense, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America."
This paragraph sums up the goals of what the constituion is for.. These ideals are what the writers of the constituion wanted for our country... These ideals have not been served...
Not only have we lost sight of these ideals, we have added much more of our responsibilities on our government.. We (as a whole) have asked our political leaders to make every decison for us, but then become upset when it doesnt go our way.. For one it is our governments role to provide for the common defense.. Whether you agree with this war or not, or war period, it is our governments job to protect this country.. I also believe that the promoting of general welfare has been misunderstood completely.. the framers wrote it to mean good forune and prosperity.. This would be a country which respect the individual and encourages us to do the best to discover our potential..
Most Americans have never read the constitution other than reading a paragraph or two for a school project.. This makes it hard to achive the above ideals...
