is an exhaust stay for a motorcycle the piece that holds the exhaust on?

im selling my exhaust and the guy wants the exhaust stay. i think its the piece that the two exhausts attach to? it just holds the exhaust on?

The 2 mufflers are bolted to a bracket. That bracket is bolted to the frame. That bracket is the "exhaust stay".

Yes, you are correct. On most modern sport bikes it is also the passenger foot peg mount.
