I thought that, like the person above me, the main character eating wild potato seeds and dying because he thought that they were wild peas was an important event.

Others included:

- When Christopher McCandless's body is found in the bus and identified
- When Christopher McCandless disappeared after graduating from college with only a note left for his parents, because it sets everything else in motion and is an important plot point
- When Gallien gives Chris a ride into Alaska, because it is a pivotal plot point and transitions between the time that the main character has Alaska as a goal and the time that he actually makes it to Alaska and begins to live there. Gallien's remembrances also come into play after the main character has been found dead.
