In the future, please be the only one to handle your pet. Clearly your friend knows nothing about handling of rodents.

It's difficult to say how your hamster's leg/paw/hand will appear. It all depends on the severity of the break. It could just be sore and swollen. Or it could be a break, but it may recover fine on its own. Also, look for any deformities. Compare the damaged paw to the undamaged one. Do you see anything "out of place"?

If possible, I'd take him to the vet ASAP (or vet hospital as it's Sunday). In the meantime, see how your hamster is walking. Can he walk on the leg at all? Can he hold any food? If he is severely limping, I suggest a vet. Keep in mind that each hour you do nothing, your hamster is in tremendous pain. And he may refuse to eat.

there is nothing the vet can do, they will not put a cast on it, it will not die from it. they will not give it pain meds , but they will charge you for the visit, and if you hurry and get there today they will charge extra for a sunday visit HOORAY

I have a hamster, too. You should TOTALLY take it to the vet right away! (If you have the money...)
