My son is 7 weeks old, and he makes very limited eye contact. He will make eye contact when feeding, and sometimes when going to sleep, but it seems that he avoids it often. Is this fairly normal at this age, or should I be worried. I have his 2 month appointment on March 5th, so I will talk to the doctor then, I was just wondering if anyone has had similar experiences.

Babies don't have much muscle control over their faces and eyes at first. Once he can hold his head up, his eye contact should improve, as it's all related to muscular strength and development, which starts at the head/neck and moves toward the extremeties...

Keep working with him... hang a bright red towel or dress in a doorway where he can see it, then position him so it will catch his eye... he will begin looking at it for longer periods of time and that will help him get more control of his eye muscles. Also, don't shake or move rattles and plush toys quickly in front of his face. Hold them still, about 1 foot in front of his face, so he can focus his eyes on them and begin reaching for them.

The person who is talking about strangulation, cumsinlitres, is a fake on here, so dont worry about that...

At 7 weeks, they should make some, but every baby is different, and that is still young enough that something probably isnt wrong! The baby is making some, which is a very very good sign...

I have a 4 month old who doesnt make eye contact at all, but does respond to light, so he is obviously not blind... We had taken him in this week actually to a speciallist and he has something called occular albinism. The inside of the eyes have no color pigment. HIs eyes are blue, but the insides has none, so he has strange eye movements...

Does your baby have strange eye movements? If not, I am sure your baby is just fine! Some eye contact is better then none!! Good luck!

Don't worry about it, he's only 7 weeks old. He has limited eye distance. If you are really worried talk to your doctor in march.

hi, mom of a 6 week previous right here. I had the comparable concerns you had in basic terms final week. the concerns at the instant are long gone. some toddlers are in basic terms extra laid decrease back than others. Your toddler is in basic terms taking in the international around him whilst he's unsleeping. the actuality that he's no longer crying is extremely dazzling - it incredibly is a robust sign that he's no longer being overstimulated. My daughter is slowly making further and extra eye touch with me. final week she does no longer even seem at me for the duration of feedings, so evaluate your self fortunate at 5 weeks! toddlers are extremely style of 'uninteresting' for the 1st little mutually as. provide your toddler incredibly extra time, he sounds completely widely used to me. yet once you're ever very in touch, there is under no circumstances any harm in calling the physician, as that's what I did to do away with my fears.

Some babies can get really overstimulated looking their moms in the eyes, so they self-regulate.

Bring it up with your pediatrician next week, for sure, so he/she can put your mind at ease. But don't waste a minute of this week worrying about it.

I don't think you need to worry about anything... he's still very, very young. I'm also pretty sure that the guy who answered above me is not a third year medical student (so ignore him)...

It could be a sign of brain damaged caused by lack of oxygen complicated by umbilical cord strangulation or the way his birth was handled.
I would see your general pracitioner ......... immediately.

I bet the kid is harboring a dark secret and every time he looks at you he feels guilty about it.
