Hamsters are sweet and cute, just like guinea pigs, and they have a less demanding diet - guinea pigs must be fed extra vitamin C. If you'd like more than one pet, you should get guinea pigs- hamsters should be kept alone while guinea pigs are more social. Guinea pigs grow larger and therefore need more cage space.

Well I had a hamsters couple of years ago and I would say they are not as friendly as guinea pigs because I have guinea pigs now they are easier to handle. My hamster used to bit me hard. My guinea pigs bit though but only if you hold then wrong or if they want to be put down they don't bit hard though. I would suggest for you to get a guinea pig just because of there personality traits.

Hmm..I have never owned a hamster. Most of the hamsters i have met bite a lot. So I went with guinea pigs. I have owned five of them, and I love guinea pigs to death. They are SOO cute. And they are very very friendly. When you get a young guinea pig, if you play with it a lot, and give it a lot of attention they become very fond of you. They are very social, and they each have their own little personality. And they also love to sit on your lap and get rubbed when you are watching a movie or doing homework. And they also love to play outside. If you have an enclosed area where the piggie can't get out they LOVE it. Those are the pros of a guinea pig.
The cons are that they have a pretty demanding diet. They do need vitamin C and they also need timothy hay at all times. And they also need fruits and veggies in their diets, along with food pellets. But I think it is fun to feed them fruits and veggies. You also have to clip their nails fairly often, other wise they curl and deform their toes. But if you start trimming their nails when they are young they get used to it, and don't mind. And you also have to watch their teeth. I don't know about hamsters, but guinea pigs teeth grow their entire life. So if they get too long they need to be trimmed. But giving them things to chew helps slow that down.
I love guinea pigs, I think they are so much fun. I would recommend them to anyone who wants a small pocket pet.

i'd bypass with hamsters because there energetic and guinea pigs scent undesirable. some people would say hamsters die in a three hundred and sixty 5 days yet fairly in case you're taking care of them then you quite've got them for awhile. I actually have had my hamster for no less than 2 years and it continues to be healthy. you'll want a cage sufficiently large for the hamster and issues for it to entertain itself you are able to feed it hamster food from the keep and lettuce and different eco-friendly vegetable's.

Hamsters bite. Don't listen if anyone here says they don't. Fine, some may not, but most do. Ask the vet or the SPCA around you, they bite.
If you have ROOM, get a guinea pig. They do get bigger, but they are much much less likely to bite. They don't run up tubes like a hamster, but they can be very sweet if you play with them every day.
Any animal with teeth can bite, that is for sure. But hamsters and gerbils are at the top of the list as biters.
That said, gps are much less exciting, they don't run around like a hamster. They do love to be held and hand fed carrots. Get a young one.

hamster pros and cons:
pros- cute, and easy to care for
cons- pee and poop alot, nocturnal so they are asleep in the day time, some bite, solitary(do not get two of them!!)
guinea pig pros and cons:
pros- cute, cuddly, and can be friendly if tamed, they are easy to train
cons- kinda skittish, kinda expensive, high maintenance
i would choose guinea pigs out of those 2, but i personally prefer gerbils.

i would go for a guinea pig, cause they are sweet and like to cuddle and they make cool sounds, plus they are social. and hamsters like to bite alot.....but i fun watching them play in their hamster ball......cause its not good to put a guinea pig in a ball it could hurt itself....but its up to u if u want something small and u dont have to care for that much or something big...where u do have to care for more........but as for me a guinea pig anyday

i would get a hamster because hamsters like to be held more and they do not need lot of cage room
hamsters are also easier to handle
if you do decide to get a hamster and you want two make sure they are not both boys or else they will fight each other and may kill each other
hope you chose the right thing for you
