It is found in most laboratory and is used to test for the presence of Halide Ions. AgCl is added to an aqueous solution and it then changes colour if a certain halide ion is present.

Silver chloride is used in black-and-white photographic film. When light falls on it from the lens, when the shutter is opened, photochemical decomposition takes place and metallic silver is formed. This gives rise to what is called a photographic negative.

The most common use of silver nitrate is in silver gelatine (black and white) photography. cf: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Silver for an article on it.

Silver nitrate is also used in the electrodes for electronic instruments that measure pH.
