what do you think red rosses symbolize?

the background is that they are in a story and they come up a lot and they where in a town from its begging and the fathering family of that town has been maintaining them, then one person destroys them! WTH do they sybolize?

Red roses symbolize usually love and things associated with love. But red roses also symbolize with death and blood in some instances.
