Cats by nature are very clean. A typical cat spends 5 hours a day grooming herself—and 16 sleeping. But sometimes even the most fastidious feline sometimes needs a makeover!...

Cats usually keep themselves pretty clean.

I have had to shave down cats that were very matted and I bathed them as part of the grooming unless the owner didn't want to to have a bath.

People who have allergies to cats are usually allergic to the saliva of the cat and not its dander so some cats are bathed often. Show cats are bathed just before a show.

Some cats like to roll in nasties and need to be bathed.

No, most cats do not need a bath ever. If you cat doesn't smell, isn't dirty, etc., then why bathe it? That being said, some cats can't clean themselves properly and do need a bath every so often. It deends on that cat, really.

Yes you should bath your cats no matter the smell. Even if the cat stays indoors, it can still get fleas and mites. While you can easily see the fleas, you can't tell if the cat has mites and mites will lead to an itchy infection for your pet. Not only that, cats can also develop skin infections, but by washing them, you can depress the infections and prevent the cat from having problems later on.

Sometimes, maybe twice a year, I wipe down my cats with a damp washcloth. They like it a lot better than being submerged in water. The only time you need to bathe your cat is if it smells bad or if it has fleas.

The only time that I would give your cat a bath is when something happens that makes it neccesary to give the cat a bath...

the only time we ever bathe our cats is when they get into something and can't get it out of their fur. they do not need to be bathed otherwise unless told to do so by your vet.

If your cat is clean, why bother? My mom washed her cat as he aged and could not keep as clean. I won't dare do it to my youngsters without chain link gloves! Really, if there is no need, leave him alone.

Usually not necessary. There are other cleansing treatments on the market if he has a little "odor".

Vinegar makes me jump back, cannot imagine how this would offend the kitty - don't do this.
