You have to swap out the whole power plant frame (engine, transmission rear end, driveshaft and torque arm) add an extra oil cooler and reflash the pcm for starters. Then upgrade your brakes. Not to mention any unforseen issues. Just to give you an idea of how different these trim levels are. Not worth it. You can trade your car in for a newer model with more options and they made improvements with the powertrain management systems so the newer RX8's are not as troublesome as the 04's and 05's were.

You can do it, but it would be cheaper and easier to sell yours and buy one like you want. To do the swap properly, you will need to find one in a salvage and get the transmission, wiring harness, computer, and pedal setup. Then just put them in your car. You are likely looking at 40 hours labor by a professional, 80-120 for a "shadetree" mechanic. Then, if everything isn't just right, you have to find the problems.

Just find a different car.

they actually ran a different intake design from the manual to the auto, that is why the manual has more power. it would be too much of a headache to even consider doing it. why didn't you just buy a manual too start with.
