Buff them with a nail buffer and then, soak them in water or better yet whole milk, and use cuticle oil.
The cuticle oil is a mirical worker for nails and cuticles, it makes your hands look softer and hydrated... and when your hands look great so do your nails.
Also use a nice pink or beige nail polish, if you try a french it will make your nails look really clean. Most people think that you need long nails for a french but that is not true, short nails work great also, if not better.
Good luck and don't bite your nails lol :P

To clean dirt from underneath the nail (for the kids especially) I have them scrape a bar of soap, the soap usually cleans out the dirt.
To keep your nails healthy looking - I use for myself and I know men who do this also -- Sally Hansen's Hard As Nails (clear). It keeps them shiny looking and helps from peeling or breaking or chipping. Also helps them from looking dull and yellow.
BTW you can get a manicure for about $10 or less.

They have this nail package thingy. It helps you shine and clean your nails or just scrub them. Put on clear nail polish too!
