There are other stuff besides rap. There's Jazz, techno, disco, hip-hop, Motown, R&B , Reggae, Soul and and other things. There's breakdancing, lindy hops, jive, swing, cakewalk, popping, locking, etc. Then there are the CONTRIBUTIONS AND INVENTIONS we made. then there's the food and BLACK ARTS, sculptures, LITERATURE and cultures from the CARIBBEAN, and AFRICA ITSELF. point being, why do people still insist that RAP in the ONLY REPRESENTATIVE OF BLACK CULTURE?

Who said that, did you survey the world's population? Not everyone thinks that, and I'm sick of people assuming too much

Blame the mass media, not the people.
People tend to believe what they are shown. And what does an average person see when they turn on the TV? Either some black guy singing on MTW, some bunch of women dancing to some (c)rap music or some action movie where the bad guys are a bunch of black drug-dealer thugs.
It's the prevailing stereotype that the media, the movies, the news... project out to the world, and all but the black people themselves will believe it, because in most cases they don't have the reason or the experience to believe otherwise.

Some people can't think out of the box or want to put black people in a certain box or category. They only want to see and believe in the negative stereotypes of blacks. White people see rap on MTV and BET they think it's cool to portray hip hop culture. They think this is what black people are all about. Nothing anyone will say or do will change there negative perceptions of blacks. Some will not make the effort to get to know a black person.

She's not stereotyping. I got similar answers when I asked "Why do people seem to think blacks share the same mind?" Not once did either of us say "Why do white people think this" or "Why do Latinos thing that" We said "PEOPLE" which is a very general word. Stereotyping would require us singling out an entire group of people (as most of the questions here do).
As to answering your question, which is a very good question, by the way, people tend to think black culture is just rap music mainly because they go by what they see on the media, and that tends to be the main thing shown when blacks are the focus. I wish people would stop being so closed-minded and judgemental, but more than anything, I wish the blacks in the media would stop giving the world the same perspective of us over and over again. We're not all like that.

It varies lots right here in usa,i think of the mainstream rap is a bad impact on the youngsters by using fact in basic terms approximately all of them in easy terms rap approximately money, women human beings, and medicines (exceptions:Eminem,Macklemore,Hopsin) The semi sought after American rappers are a robust impact by using fact they are often undemanding center classification people who rap approximately severe matters that we cope with by using fact even nonetheless they make a residing from song, they gets a commission on the subject of the comparable as a common activity like cooking or coaching which at the instant are not minimum salary Nor prosperous paying jobs so as that they stay in a house in a Neighbourhood incredibly than a mansion in the hills. In Australia it incredibly is a robust impact by using fact maximum mainstream Australian rappers dont enable the money get to their head and sellout for what's extensive-unfold. the biggest Aussie hip hop trio in Australia, the hilltop hoods, use their attractiveness to deliver a favorable message, and on the comparable time nonetheless make songs documenting their upward push and songs approximately their babies and in basic terms super occasion songs. The problem is nowadays it is almost impossible to get info about black america from tv and in school. The most basic things are taught, but until people demand more of the information that could be available, it won't be available. Ignorance plays a role in it too. I mean ignorance in the true sense of the word ( to not know).

Not everyone thinks this way, but the people who do think this way do so because of either:
a)The only view of black culture they see is either on MTV or VH1, which mostly has rap music on it.
b)Many persons don't watch TVOne or BET outside of the African-American community.(I know some people who have grilled BET because of the atitude that if there were to be a WET, there would be outrage).
c)Some people just chose to be ignorant.

Because that is what a lot of the rappers want people to focus on. I really don't believe that an intelligent person would insist that Rap is the ONLY representation of black people. You are stereotyping many people, which isn't right. I believe it a lies in the levels of intelligence of anyone.

rock & roll and country is also black music but I will spare you the long music history lesson.
but when I turn on the TV most of the time I dont see brothers lindy hopping. I see rappers throwing up gang signs and crip walkin.
That is the image that they show of us, so what do you expect people to think?

If people would take COLOR out of the equation and call it African American culture that would take away from the racist generalization that you just expressed. Black culture is defined as evil and bad and devil worship. That is not my culture. Also it's a waste of time trying to make other ethnic groups see us as anything other than what they CHOOSE to see. You know white folks have come behind African Americans and others and stolen their musical expressions and dances and actually made more money than the original artists did. Eminem is not of African descent and neither is a few other so called "RAPPERS" so it's NOT really limited to the brothers and sisters.
