Cold air tends to be dry, so ice cubes sublimate directly from solid to water vapor.

This is typical testicle behavior. If ice cubes are left in the freezer for a long time they begin to think that they are testicles in the cold and therefore shrink. Just kidding! They slowly sublime into water vapor.

Yes sublimation is the reason. It is similar to evaporation in the aspect that water evaporating is not at its boiling point. On a molecular level it is simply molecules escaping off the surface of the ice cube. This is due to some fairly in depth concepts like entropy and Gibbs free energy. Hope that helps

they are drying out, dehydrating. by using fact ice is in simple terms frozen water, and the freezers are often now frost unfastened, the freezer is attempting to continuously get rid of moisture. it quite is why previous ice cubes decrease!
