I lived in Switzerland for two years teaching the Swiss (and a lot of other nationalities; la Suisse est un pays dynamique!) about the beliefs and culture of the LDS/Mormon faith.
If you live near Geneva, you can attend their chapel right across from Balexert on bus line 10. If not, you can call this phone number to order some church books: +41 22 7 58 1535 (They speak both English and French, and can connect you to a centre that speaks German or Italian if you need)
If not, "Mormonism for Dummies" is good. "Our Search for Happiness" was written by M. Russell Ballard. "True to the Faith" is one that explains church doctrine and standards. "Rock & Ice" is one that talks about scientific evidence supporting Christian & Mormon doctrines.

I heard Mormonism for Dummies wasn't bad, at least for outside sources. I know, it sounds funny, but a lady I worked with moved to Utah and she read it and thought it gave a pretty good summary. For Mormon books and Mormonism, there is a book called Our Search For Happiness (can't remember who wrote it). I'm sure there are other books for specific Utah activities, etc. Good luck.

I suggest "Mormon America", by Richard N. Ostling and Joan K. Ostling. It provides a fair and balanced overview of the mormon church and its impact on american and world culture. It became very popular during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, Utah as a source for journalists reporting on the games.

I just visited Utah last August. It was awesome. The Lonely Planet series should have a good guidebook. Check out "The Complete Idiot's Guide to Mormonism." That should serve as a good introduction to the faith.

I canmt lay my hands on the book that I have in mind, but it was written by an LDS pilgrim and it describes the Mountain Meadows Massacre.
If you want to know about Mormonism, then I can recommend bcmmin.org for more information about that. Perhaps they can help you with informaiton about Utah as well.

If you go to LDS.org it is the official website for the L.D.S. church, Mormons, the official name is The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and they will give you a history of the church and other information.
God Bless
