I'm a sophomore in high school, and I'm writting about Rosa Parks and her life. I don't know what I'm doing. I would really appreciate the help.

develop a thesis or question that you're comfortable with; gather resources on the subject; note-take effectively; then organize the material; compile an outline that gives you structure on what you need to say and where; then write your first rough draft.
read it and revise and revise; now write the final copy

"Crzywrite" is on the right track. You do need to open with a thesis statement. His suggestion is a good one. Another is opening with a quote by Ms. Parks.

A common technique is to use the chronological form - past, present and future. Begin with stating when and where Ms. Parks was born, describe her childhood and the social and racial atmosphere at the time and how this affected her and other blacks. This is the Past. Move on to the Present. What lead her to make the decisions she made and take the actions she took? What were the results? Now, move on to the Future. In this case, describe the long-term effects her life had on society and when and where she died. What changes might be in store for us due to her, what direction society is taking.

End with a recap. Sum up what you've said previously and you may wish to close with another quote.

However you open, you must provide supportive statements to back up whatever you say and there must be an opening statement, body of support (includes more statements that you support with data and is the largest portion of your paper) and a closing statement. You will need to learn as much about Rosa Parks as you can in order to have enough data to choose from. Good luck and do well!

Think about your overwhelming theme: are you focusing on her life itself, or the impact her life had?

Once you figure that out, turn it into a thesis: it should be something that sums up your whole topic, while leaving options open for analysis.

"Rosa Parks was one of the defining individuals of the twentieth century.... her life had xyz impact on life today.... Rosa Parks was the epicenter of the entire civil rights movement..."

something along those lines. If you leave topics for analysis, the paper will write itself.

Just follow the 5pgh format. For instance, body paragraph one could be her background-- maybe, why she was an unlikely individual to inspire such widespread change, and why that's inspiring (without saying "this is inspiring because).

body paragraph two could be about the bus boycott itself

body paragraph three could encompass her life of activism.

and then, you conclude by answering the question posed by your thesis.

Go to the library and get some books on Rosa Parks and the Civil Rights Movement. Read them. Take notes on them.

Come up with a thesis (Something you're trying to prove, i.e. Rosa Parks was a civil rights hero for her actions)

Then come up with an outline, detailing the points that you're going to make that support the thesis.

Write the paper, using quotes where appropriate from the books you read up at the beginning.

Make sure to cite your sources, using whatever method your teacher wants (ask them if you're not sure)

Just write about her life and her accomplishments. You can start off with "Rosa Parks is a well known African American woman." Then go on from there. Hope I helped. Good luck!

Okay, you start off with when and where she was born. Then just talk a little about her childhood. After that lead into her accomplishments. Finish off with how, where, and wen she died. If you still need more stuff, add in you opinions at the end. Look at some stuff in wikipedia.com. Here is the correect adress. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Rosa_parks
