Hell yes! However many years he wants and however much money he wants. He has been so underpaid the Yankees have practially robbed him! He is why they won all those rings and he is the key to winning more! He is arguably the greatest closer ever. PAY THE MAN!

As a Red Sox fan, I'd love to see Cashman not extend his contract and Rivera become a free agent. He signs with the Sox, or a National League team.
All dreams aside, Rivera is lights out, and I've been jealous of his greatness for years. Sure, the Sox have gotten to him a few times over the years, but he's shut the door on them countless times.
The contract he signed (which he is still in) was ridiculous. It was much to small, and the Yankee brass got away with a minor miracle. I'd guess that Rivera knows this, saw how the front office has treated Bernie Williams, and wants an extention now.
He's the greatest closer of all time, and a first ballot hall of famer. He's also pushing 38 years old, but he hasn't shown any type of decline. He also wants respect...hmmm, if it were me, I'd offer him a two-year contract worth $32 million. With one year left on his current deal, that will take him to age 40, and if he's still effective he can always sign a one year deal, as fans may realize that age is creeping up on him.

You have to resign him, especially with the uproar that is going on about Bernie Williams. Rivera is still productive and is still one of the top closers in the game.
He currently is making 10.5 mill a season. The other top paid closers (Wagner, Ryan, Gagne) all make about that much a year now. Rivera would probably look for around 12-14 mill a season. Is he worth it? Yes. Is it overpaying? Yes. Can the Yankees afford it? Of course.
A couple more seasons at that rate, the Yankees can sign K-Rod when he becomes a free agent, put him in the setup role and breed him to be Rivera's replacement.
Don't tread on the players that made your past so bright.

Mo's contract issue will be addressed at the end of the season.
Brian Cashman's no fool. The thought of Mo playing in anything other than Yankee pinstripes will cause a riot in New York.
Cashman would need a tank to get to work.

Brian Cashman would be a fool NOT to extension that contract.
We all know Rivera can be simply lights out.
As for the length, I don't know..maybe 3 years and whatever he wanted. I'd give it to him.
Funny thing about baseball is that they are a lot of behind the scenes situations going on that, as fans, we have no clue.
I am sure this situation has come up in discussions, and there will be a solution shortly....however unfortunate for non yankee fans (such as myself).

With everything that Mariano Rivera has given the Yankees, I'd let him start out by naming years and dollars and go from there. I'd try to get him for about 4 years and $7.5 a year.

I dont understand why he replaced into in this night's pastime in the 1st place. it relatively is the 2nd consecutive night he's been introduced in to guard a TIE, no longer a lead. Of the Yanks 13 wins rivera has had 6 shop oppourtunites, and he's already pitched in 5 video games that have been'nt shop opportunities. i think of girardi's misuse of him is a factor of the problem, yet specific, they're surely suffering. Damon is on fire, Tex had 5 RBI in 2 video games getting into this night, and Arod is back tommorrow, so we are going to see what happens.

Yes I would, a happy employee is a productive employee. The last thing this team needs is for this to become a distraction on top of the other distractions already brewing for the Bronx Bombers this season. I say, keep the boy happy, give him 3 years, 33 million.

yes, three years (including this, his last season in contract) at whatever the going rate is for a premier stopper...just so that wouldn't become an issue later, over time he had been a proven performer for that organization one of the keys to their last championship runs and one of the best in the business...

Absolutely ! He's the greatest post-season closer in history, and he hasn't been bad during the regular season, either. I would re-sign him for two years, details of the deal undisclosed.
